Evening!
Raises his cup of tea
The mercy of the LORD.
Psalm 118: 1-4
“Oh give thanks to The LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let Israel now say, ‘His mercy endures forever’. Let those who fear the LORD now say, ‘His mercy endures forever.”
What is mercy?
Mercy: (noun)
- Compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power; Imprisonment rather than death imposed as penalty for first-degree murder.
- A blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion; a fortunate circumstance.
- A compassionate treatment of those in distress
What is Perfect Mercy?
Perfectly beautiful. This evening we should try giving thanks to God for His Mercy. Everyday Christianity is a strange thing. So much of our teaching and examples of stories we have to work with in Scripture are huge showings of God. Like in Daniel. Daniel was saved from death with a supernatural vision from God when Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled his soul. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were saved from the fiery furnace by the Angel of God because they would not bow down and serve the gods of Babylon. They walked through the fire without it touching them. Nebuchadnezzar was struck with insanity at just the instant his pride was over blown and for seven years was like an animal only to be restored again after, for our God is a merciful God. Meanwhile Belshazzar was defiling the vessels of God’s temple causing a supernatural hand to write on the wall.
Although it might feel like we have lived a lifetime simply by reading through Daniel’s book, the truth of the matter is we only have a few days peek into his life and it is only the outstanding miracles that he has recorded.
Let’s take a moment to think back to a big gift we’ve received in the past. One that was important. One that meant a lot to us. When was the last time we thought about that gift and how quickly do we forget about said gift unless we write down and repeat what it is that we were given and experienced?
In response to God’s Mercy, Daniel prayed:
Daniel 2: 19-23
“Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the Name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him. I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You. For You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
How did God have mercy on us today?
Have we prayed a specific prayer of thanks for it?
Have a good night!
:)

At your suggestion I gave thanks for a very great gift from God—-a few words from a sermon over thirty years ago that struck me powerfully as truth and revealing I had been trying to save myself by human effort. Those few words led me into a serious examination of the claims of Christ over several years, resulting ultimately in my repentance and acceptance of Christ as my Lord and Saviour. It has made the eternal difference—-thank you Lord!
I need the reminder!
