Moose’s helm was a curiosity to see. The screens and gauges, buttons and switches, all shared the space with books, open and shut, stacked upright and on the side, various ball point pens, several different notebooks, each a different color on the front, and a steaming coffee mug.
“Let’s take a look at Romans 12,” Moose says, his hands flip open one of the several Bibles on the helm’s desk. The book opens easily, he flips through the pages with one hand, like a familiar handshake with a familiar friend, carefully flipping to a well worn page.
“Then we’re diving right in,” chimes in CS01, several screens flash to life.
Moose takes off his hat, takes a breath, and recites the passage out loud.
Romans 12: 1-2
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
With his free hand he pulls the silken black page marker between the pages and flips further into the New Testament. “And I want to add with it something from Ephesians,” Moose says. CS01 hums quietly in the background, watching, listening.
Ephesians 4: 17-19
“This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.”
“Now,” Moose says and replaces his hat on his head after speaking the Word. “Let’s do a word search. Entertainment.”
CS01 hears the word and faster than lightning the word flashes on a screen, a definition listed.
