James 3: 13-18

“Who is wise and understanding among you?  Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.  But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.  This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.  For where envy and self seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.  Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

Moose flips off the coms.  He wrinkles his nose and sits back at the helm, opening his Bible immediately to James.  He flips a page to Chapter three.  “Ok, Q-bot.  Let’s put this one to rest.  Meek.  We’re going to need to do a word study.”

Q-bot salutes.  Immediately her gears whirr, mechanical arms shoot out of her back with a dictionary screen, several pens, a notebook.  Her palm flips upward, holographic projection flashes on, the word ‘meek’ hangs in the air for all to see.

Meek: (adjective)

- Enduring injury with patience and without resentment: mild

- Deficient in spirit and courage: submissive

- Not violent or strong: Moderate

The word used in Greek:

“Flip back with me to Proverbs 6.”  Moose flips a few pages, gold edges flash in the helm’s light.

Proverbs 6: 16-19

“These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.”

And…

Philippians 4: 5

“Let your gentleness be known to all men.  The Lord is at hand.”

Word used for gentleness:

Epieikes:

- mild, gentle, moderation, patient

“So.  What do we say meek means if we take this quick study in context of the fear of the LORD being the beginning of knowledge and fools despising wisdom and instruction?”  Moose looks up.  Q-bot blinks.  Art-bot blinks.  Moose looks back down to his controls.  “Oh.”  And flips off the coms.

Numbers 12: 1-9

“Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman.  So they said, ‘Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses?  Has He not spoken through us also?  And the LORD heard it.  (Now Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth).  Suddenly the LORD said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, ‘Come out, you three, to the tabernacle of meeting!’  So the three came out.  Then the LORD came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron, and Miriam.  And they both went forward.  Then He said, ‘Hear now My Words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, make myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream.  Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house.  I speak with him face to face, even plainly, and not in dark sayings; and he sees the form of the LORD.  Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?’  So the anger of the LORD was aroused against them, and He departed.”
