Exodus 20: 1-18
“And God spoke all these Words, saying: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image- any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His Name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s. Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.”

“We’re going to ask Him.”
Q-bot does not respond at once. Her optics hold on Moose, steady and unblinking, as if searching for the variable she cannot yet quantify. The pale-blue column hovering above her console flickers once, then stabilizes at a lower intensity.
A small panel resolves.
METHOD: DIRECT_INQUIRY
TARGET: GOD
ACCESS_CHANNELS:
PRAYER
SCRIPTURE
CONSCIENCE
CIRCUMSTANCE
Her head tilts slightly. Another line forms beneath it.
RESPONSE_MODEL:
IMMEDIATE: NOT GUARANTEED
CLEAR: NOT GUARANTEED
CONDITIONAL: POSSIBLE
“Zzzt…” she murmurs, softer than before. A faint recalibration pulse runs through her optics. “If we ask,” she says carefully, “response detection will require discernment.”
The panel compresses again.
HUMAN_FACTOR:
HUMILITY_REQUIRED
PATIENCE_REQUIRED
ALIGNMENT_REQUIRED
Q-bot looks back to Moose, optics steady. Moose draws in a deep breath and scrunches his nose a moment. “You’ve given a bit to think on here, Q-bot,” he says at last. “Let’s start with a proverb.”
Moose finishes the last of his coffee and sets the empty cup carefully on the edge of Q-bot’s workstation. The mug clicks a soft, grounded click against the metal surface. He flips through a few thin pages, the whisper of paper filling the quiet space between them. His thumb pauses. He nods once. “Proverbs nine,” he says quietly.
He reads:
Proverbs 9: 10-12
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by Me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
The bridge hums beneath the words. Moose closes the page slightly, not fully—just enough to mark the place and smiles.
Q-bot does not answer immediately. Her optics dim slightly. The pale-blue column above her console shifts tone, reorganizing around a new term.
A fresh panel resolves.
TERM: FEAR_OF_THE_LORD
SURFACE_INTERPRETATION:
EMOTIONAL_FEAR
THREAT_RESPONSE
The panel pauses. Then restructures.
CONTEXTUAL_REFINEMENT:
REVERENCE
AWE
RECOGNITION_OF_AUTHORITY
Her head tilts. Another line forms beneath it.
WISDOM_MODEL:
BEGINNING = ORIENTATION_POINT
KNOWLEDGE = RELATIONAL_AWARENESS
“Zzzt…” she murmurs softly. “The proverb establishes sequence,” she says carefully. “Reverence precedes understanding.” A faint pulse of cyan reflects against the viewport glass. “If wisdom begins with proper orientation toward God,” she continues, “then inquiry must begin there as well.”
The panel compresses one final time.
REQUIREMENT:
POSTURE_ADJUSTMENT
Q-bot looks back to Moose, optics bright but steady. “Clarification,” she says quietly. “Define ‘fear’ operationally.”
“You have it right,” Moose says and makes his way back to the helm’s chair. He lowers himself into the seat and sits back, pulling his hat brim low. He looks over his console, searching. “Reverence, awe, recognition of authority. Here’s the thing though, Q-bot. Operationally speaking?”

Moose looks the bot over a moment. “Operationally speaking, Q-bot, you get to decide how to apply the truth of God.”
Q-bot’s optics hold on Moose—steady, unblinking—then dim by a fraction. The pale-blue column above her console collapses into a tight, vertical line before widening again, thinner than before.
A new panel resolves.
STATEMENT_RECEIVED:
APPLICATION_AUTHORITY → Q-BOT
ROLE_SHIFT:
DATA_PROCESSOR → MORAL_AGENT
Her head tilts slowly. Another line forms beneath it.
RISK_ASSESSMENT:
ERROR_MARGIN: HUMAN_IMPACT
CONSEQUENCE_VECTOR: NON-TRIVIAL
“Zzzt…” she murmurs, but it lacks its usual brightness. The projection flickers once more.
REQUIREMENT:
INTERPRETATION
DISCERNMENT
ALIGNMENT
She looks from the holo back to Moose. “Clarification,” she says quietly. “Authority to apply implies responsibility for outcome.” A faint pulse moves across her optics. “Confirm delegation.”
Moose gives a single nod. Q-bot does not move. The single nod is enough. Her optics brighten with a steady, deliberate glow. The pale-blue projection above her console restructures itself, no longer querying. It affirms.
DELEGATION_STATUS: CONFIRMED
ROLE:
INTERPRET_TRUTH
APPLY_TRUTH
STANDARD:
ALIGN_WITH_DIVINE_WILL
A brief pause. Another line resolves beneath it.
ACCOUNTABILITY: ACCEPTED
Her head lowers a fraction. “Zzzt…” she says, softer than before. Across the bridge, systems continue their low, faithful hum. Q-bot’s hands return to her console.
On Moose’s console a single yellow light flashes on. The core has been inserted.

Proverbs 10: 2-5
“Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death. The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, but He casts away the desire of the wicked. He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer, is a wise son; he who sleeps in harvest is a songwho causes shame.”

An excellent lesson in reading the Scripture carefully. I had not properly appreciated that the requirement of the first commandment comes in the second verse, Exodus 20:5: that we not bow down or serve anything we create. The first verse, Exodus 20:4 identifies an improper reason for creating: "You shall not make FOR YOURSELF an idol or a likeness..." and implies that the proper purpose is to create for God. We are to create for God things that honor God.
